This introductory lecture provides an overview of the EU Artificial Intelligence Act (AI Act) and its objective of ensuring that artificial intelligence is used in a safe, ethical and legally compliant manner across the European Union. It explains the risk-based approach of the regulation, ranging from prohibited AI systems to high-risk and low-risk applications, as well as the obligations that apply to organisations.
