This fall, Q Mentoria set a record with 100 participants in the mentorship program for women and non-binary individuals. Now, registration is open for the spring period, and the demand is high. We took the opportunity to meet with Benjamin Huynh, mentor, and Jie Chen, mentee, to get answers on what it's like to be part of Q Mentoria.

Mentorship for career growth in the tech industry

Benjamin Huynh works as an Art Director at Consid. Here he dedicates his time to creative and interactive design. From a professional perspective, his biggest goal is to be among those who need his help. As one of the elected mentors within Q Mentoria Benjamin is the support that he felt was lacking at the beginning of his career.

–The absence of a sounding board, guidance, and practical work experience has meant that I have walked my path alone. This has been true for my entire life, really. From running my own business since my teenage years to freelancing and being the sole creative at an agency, it has shaped me to want to advocate for others so that they don’t have to risk burning out in pursuit of their own path, shares Benjamin Huynh.

Right now, Benjamin dedicates time to support and meet with our mentee Jie Chen, who is a second-year student in New Media Design at Jönköping University. Jie got introduced to Q Mentoria during a Student Night in Jönköping, hosted by Q by Consid.

– During the event, I had the opportunity to hear from three amazing women who shared their personal stories and career journeys. I found it inspiring to hear how they navigated their studies and career paths. Their tips for success in the industry were truly insightful. I also got introduced to Q Mentoria and saw it as a a great opportunity for me to cuntinue to learn from professionals working in my field, tells Jie Chen, when once again visiting the Consid office in Jönköping to meet with Benjamin.

Insights from Q Mentoria leading to success

Benjamin and Jie share a similar study experience, which also makes his career journey inspiring to Jie. According to Jie the best thing about having a mentor is “their ability to provide extremely valuable insights into how they operate within the industry” – something she wouldn’t learn in school.

– Benjamin is very kind, honest, and helpful. In our first meeting, we discussed various aspects of our career journeys, such as how to set a career direction, the skills that will be in demand in the future, and the influence of AI in our field, says Jie.

Offering guidance and support, especially in Jie’s journey of continuous discovery, Benjamin is there to assist and guide her as she explores and faces new challenges.

– Miss Chen recently took on the challenge of designing a magazine cover for the university competition, pushing her creative boundaries. I’m dedicated to helping her thrive in such creative endeavours and embrace every opportunity to grow, says Benjamin.

Jie adds:

– I was struggling to make the cover appealing and exciting for young people. Benjamin explained his design process and provided solutions he would implement. With his help, I managed to secure a spot in the top 6 of the design competition, shares Jie with a broad smile in her face.
