People of Consid

Lia Eriksson

How do you build brands that people genuinely care about? For Lia Eriksson, Creative Director at Consid Communication, the answer lies in truly understanding people, rather than simply viewing them as target audiences on paper. With roots in the pioneering days of the digital era and experience across both B2B and B2C, she has built her career on bringing creativity, strategy, and business together.

Creativity and business go hand in hand; neither can thrive without the other. When they work together, real impact happens.

Creativity Starts with Understanding

At Consid’s office by Stortorget in Malmö, Lia describes her role as a combination of strategist, creative, and creative leader.

“In my role, I usually take the strategic helicopter perspective, both when it comes to developing ideas and coaching the creative team, understanding why and what we should do, and ultimately assessing the creative quality of the end product.”

With experience across both B2B and B2C brands, she sees clear differences in how organisations approach communication.

B2C companies often have a stronger commercial drive tied to their own existence, making them more willing to take different, bold, and creative approaches and challenge established ways of communicating. They also tend to have a greater awareness of their customers’ unique needs and preferences, which more often results in communication that feels responsive and personally relevant.

B2B companies, on the other hand, tend to group their target audiences in relatively stereotypical ways and often focus more on what they themselves want to communicate rather than fully adapting their communication to the recipient’s needs and perspective. At the same time, there is a tendency to underestimate the value of emotional communication. Much of it looks the same, sounds the same, and follows the same established conventions, even though people make decisions with both their hearts and their minds – including in B2B.

“It’s both trendless and full of trends”

Today, the media landscape is changing faster than ever, and Lia is convinced that the strongest brands of the future will rely less on polished messaging and more on genuine relationships.

“It’s no longer enough to send out bland messages through a bombastic marketing machine. It’s disrespectful to the recipient. People aren’t passive recipients of advertising – they choose what they let into their lives. Brands will need to take a stand in order to build genuine and meaningful relationships, and that happens through dialogue, collaboration with their target audiences, and shared values with their community.”

At the same time, she sees a clear shift in how trends work.

“It’s both trendless and full of trends at the same time – a paradox that makes expression freer, more personal, and opens up opportunities for play and experimentation. I’ve talked about trends in various contexts and on different stages for more than ten years, and when AI became widespread, I wondered whether it was even worth continuing. But my conclusion was a clear yes. AI can compile and reproduce, but it cannot replace experience, intuition, and a personal perspective. My trend forecasts are based on my experience, my ability to interpret tendencies, amplify them and see connections, but also on my ability to envision where development is heading.”

When Strategy and Creativity Come Together, Impact Happens

According to Lia, one of the biggest challenges in brand building is having the courage to let go of internal assumptions and instead listen to the world around you.

“You’ve succeeded when the brand experience, personality, and voice seamlessly match the audience’s perception. But that takes time and requires curiosity, humility, and a genuine willingness to listen.”

She sees no conflict between creativity and business value. Quite the opposite.

“Creativity and business go hand in hand; neither can thrive without the other. When they work together, real impact happens.”

But creativity is rarely linear. Like many other creatives, she has experienced periods when ideas don’t come as easily.

“Over the years, I’ve learned to change direction when I get stuck – take a walk around the block, grab a coffee with a colleague, dive into Pinterest, and let the pen get my thoughts moving freely again. But I’ve also learned to recognise when others need help.”

And when it comes to unwinding? It rarely happens while sitting still.

“I’m terrible at relaxing in the traditional sense, but I feel very relaxed when I’m moving, so I ride horses, spend time in nature, mow the lawn, or do yoga.”

From the IT Bubble to Today’s Brand Landscape

When Lia joined Consid Communication in autumn 2022, she was drawn to the opportunity to combine creative leadership with business development.

“What attracted me was the combination of creative leadership and business development to establish the communications offering in the region, as well as the opportunity to take a broader perspective and work nationally with new colleagues and clients.”

Her career has taken her through several types of agency environments – from advertising agencies and production houses to experience-driven full-service agencies.

“It has given me broad experience and the confidence to move between digital, creative, and strategic work.”

The foundation was laid back in the 1990s, when the internet was still new and the possibilities seemed virtually limitless.

“I’m probably the result of one of the first groups to be educated in web and what was then called multimedia in the mid-90s. It was a time when the digital world was just beginning to take shape, and I jumped straight into the agency world’s bubbling IT boom,” she says with a smile. “It was an incredibly fun time, and I have so much to thank it for.”
