LEAN in practice: Competence Boost 2.0

During autumn 2025, Consid delivered a three-day LEAN training programme on site at Kährs, a world-leading manufacturer of wood and vinyl flooring. The training formed part of a larger competence development initiative in Kalmar County, Competence Boost 2.0, aimed at strengthening competitiveness and long-term development within the industrial sector.

About the project

Competence Boost 2.0 aims to create the conditions for sustainable and competitive workplaces across Kalmar County through lifelong learning. The main objective is to provide needs-driven training initiatives for employees in industry-related companies and the public sector. The training session held at Kährs was carried out as part of the project through the Industrial Development Centre (IUC).

LEAN as a methodology

LEAN is a methodology designed to streamline ways of working and processes by reducing waste and focusing on what truly creates value for the customer. Through continuous improvement, clear workflows and employee involvement, LEAN contributes to higher quality, better resource utilisation and more sustainable operations.

Interactive lean training

Over the course of three full days, Consid’s course leader delivered an interactive and practice-oriented LEAN training programme for 21 participants at Kährs.

The training combined theory with practical exercises, allowing participants to clearly see the effects of LEAN principles in practice. The course leader covered key concepts, when the methodology can be applied and the value it can create in everyday work. Part of the training also involved participants working together to improve a fictional workflow, enabling them to translate theory into action.

I was already familiar with much of the content, but now it became clearer. Everything connected, and for the first time I understood what I needed to contribute in order to move to the next level.

Insights and impact

The evaluation following the training showed very positive results. Participants reported a significant increase in their knowledge of LEAN throughout the course. Several participants who initially rated their knowledge as low or very low stated after the training that they had a high or very high level of understanding of the methodology. Many also highlighted that the training was directly applicable to their daily work and that the level of the course was well balanced in relation to their previous experience. The course leader, Magnus Rosell, received the highest rating from all participants in every evaluation category.
