Considition 2025 in Collaboration with Vattenfall – Focusing on Sustainable Electric Vehicle Charging

The global hackathon Considition is returning this autumn, this time in collaboration with the Swedish energy company Vattenfall AB. This year’s competition challenges participants to tackle one of today’s biggest issues – how electric vehicle charging in urban areas can be optimised using smart algorithms.

It’s soon time for this year’s edition of Considition, the hackathon hosted by Consid together with a partner organisation. Last year’s edition, held in collaboration with Ikano Bank, attracted over 200 players from 12 different countries. First place was claimed by the father-daughter duo Per and Dawn Odqvist, who impressed the jury with their innovative algorithm.

In this year’s edition, delivered in partnership with Vattenfall’s IT-department, participants will take on the role of a strategist for an electricity grid system. Using artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML), they will be tasked with developing an algorithm to optimise electric vehicle charging in urban environments – considering customer satisfaction, cost efficiency and power distribution capacity.

– It’s incredibly inspiring to collaborate with Vattenfall for this year’s Considition. With their expertise in energy and e-mobility charging solutions and ours in digital innovation, we have the foundation for a truly exciting hackathon where we can jointly create solutions for a sustainable future, says Emilia Bentzer, Project Manager for Considition.

The game powering the competition, PowerZone, simulates an electric vehicle charging network. Using real data from Vattenfall, participants will develop algorithms for pattern recognition. A visual map of charging zones and customer movement will be created to enhance the gaming experience and clarify the consequences of each strategic decision.

– Teaming up with Considition is an exciting new step for us. We are eager to see what the Powerzone game reveals. I hope it will bring valuable insights to improve urban EV charging that will make it even easier to move in a fossil-free way, says Jetske Zuidema, Director Customer IT of Vattenfall

Considition is open to participants from around the world and will launch in autumn 2025. For programmers and technology enthusiasts, the hackathon presents a unique opportunity to work with real-world data and challenges, while contributing to a more sustainable future society. Participants will also compete for an exciting prize awarded to the most innovative and effective solution.
