In the 2025 edition, sustainable electric vehicle charging was in focus as Consid partnered with Vattenfall. Participants stepped into the role of a strategist for an electricity grid system and used AI and machine learning to develop an algorithm to optimise electric vehicle charging in urban environments.

2025 focus: Smart grids for electric vehicle charging

The 2025 edition’s challenge centred on sustainable electric vehicle charging, as Consid joined forces with the Swedish energy company Vattenfall AB. Participants took on the role of grid strategists, using AI and machine learning to develop algorithms that improved EV charging in urban environments. The aim was to maximise customer satisfaction, cost efficiency and energy distribution capacity.

The challenge was built on PowerZone, a simulation game that replicated a city-wide EV charging network. Using real-world data from Vattenfall, participants developed pattern recognition algorithms. An interactive map visualised charging zones and customer movement, helping players understand the impact of each decision while enhancing the overall gaming experience.

Eight years of sustainable innovation

2025 marked the eighth year of the hackathon, continuing its mission to drive sustainable change through innovation. Past partners include Budbee, triathlon brand IRONMAN, drone startup GLOBHE, Riksbyggen, and Coca-Cola. In 2024, the spotlight was on the finance and lending market in collaboration with Ikano Bank.
